Guide for Basic Construction Safety

AMOUNT: $15,000 US

PROJECT LEADERS: Leticia Santos Zamarripa, Roberto Aguero

INSTITUTIONS: Dallas County Community College and Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey

Segments of the U.S. Hispanic population, especially those living in border states, typically have a low level of education which contributes to their vulnerability in terms of health, safety and human development. The project partners developed a course in Spanish called "Guide for Basic Construction Safety". It is offered online and free of charge to the Hispanic community working in the construction industry and covers basic job site construction safety for commercial and industrial environments. The course complies with the OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) standards of the U.S. Department of Labor, and is still being offered through the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey's 62 Community Learning Centers located in various US cities.
