AMOUNT: $15,000 US

PROJECT LEADERS: Zulmara Cline and Rodrigo Martínez-Sandoval

INSTITUTIONS: California State University, San Marcos and Universidad Iberoamericana - Tijuana

The purpose of the Border Pedagogy Literacy Institute was to improve literacy instruction in the San Diego/Tijuana border region by facilitating binational dialogues and the dissemination of information between educators from San Diego, California (USA) and Tijuana, Baja California (Mexico). During the institute, educators from each region gained a deeper understanding of each country’s educational systems, shared information on instructional practices, and learned literacy teaching strategies that will improve student achievement in the border region. Two universities, California State University San Marcos and Iberoamericana, have spearheaded this initiative in order to facilitate an exchange of ideas and best practices.
