Water, Drainage and Public Health in the Mexican
Border Region: A Proposal for Analysis

AMOUNT: $12,000 US

PROJECT LEADERS: Irasema Coronado, Enrique Cifuentes García

INSTITUTIONS: University of Texas at El Paso and Fundación México-Estados Unidos para la Ciencia

This binational collaborative project between University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and Fundación México-Estados Unidos para la Ciencia (FUMEC) identified social and epidemiological indicators that provided a comparative relationship and a more detailed analysis of the concern of water, its availability, and environmental health issues related to the borderlands communities located on the central and eastern U.S.-Mexican border. The project identified the mechanisms that determined the priorities for the instrumentation of laws, programs and actions, and how the repercussions included the central and eastern borderland communities on the U.S.-Mexican border.
