-Financial Aid-

The Student Organization of North America (SONA) invites students from Mexico, the United States, Canada, and the rest of the world to participate in an essay competition for the granting of scholarships to attend our 8th Conference that will be held in Houston, Texas, on April 21-23, 2010.


Scholarship Competition Basis:

i) Undergraduate and graduate students from Higher Education Institutions in Mexico, the United States, Canada, and other countries are elegible to participate in this competition.

ii) In order to participate it is necessary to send a short (300-400 words) essay that answers one of the following questions (please do not include the question in your essay):

1. How have social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. enabled leaders to communicate more effectively? On a broader scale, how have these sites influenced/impacted political and social movements (for example, the 2008 U.S. Presidential election or the current relief efforts in Haiti)?

2. If you were the leader of your country, what actions would you take to address the global economic crisis we face today?

iii) The essay can be written in any of the following languages: English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese.

Characteristics of the Scholarship:

The scholarship will cover the following expenses for each approved student.

1. Conference registration fee
2. Lodging - accomodation at the Holiday Inn in a guest room (4 occupants)**

* If you wish to have your own room, please make accomodations on your own. Roomate preferences and selection will be addressed as soon as the winners are selected.

Selection and Notification Process:

The submitted essays will be reviewed by the selection committee and the winners will be notified by email to the email address provided.
