The Student Organization of North America (SONA) invites Higher Education students in Mexico, the United States and Canada to participate in an essay competition for the granting of student scholarships in order to participate at our 7th Conference that will be carried out in Monterrey, N.L, Mexico on October 8-10, 2008.

Scholarship Competition Basis:

i) Undergraduate and graduate students from Higher Education Institutions in Mexico, the United States and Canada, are elegible to participate in this competition.

ii) In order to participate it is necessary to send a short (300-400 words) essay that answers one of the following questions (please do not include the question in your essay):

1. What do you consider the biggest problem currently faced by young adults? What potential solutions do you believe could address the problem?

2. What changes do you suggest in order to better integrate cultures and societies as globalization continues to progress? How could you contribute towards making that change?

iii) The essay can be written in any of the following languages: English, Spanish, and/or French.

iv) A number of scholarships will be offered to students in each of the 3 North American countries.

Characteristics of the Scholarship:

The scholarship will cover the following expenses for each approved student.

1. Conference registration fee
2. Lodging - accomodation sharing with 3 other students (4 people per room)*

** If you wish not to share your room, please make accomodations on your own. Roomate preferences and selection will be addressed as soon as the winners are selected.

Selection and Notification Process:

The participant essays will be graded by a Jury integrated by experts in the field of education and university leadership from the University of Arizona. The winners will be notified by email and the list of selected students will later be included in the SONA web page.
