Distance education has become an important alternative
means of learning for many university students. The development
of the Inter American University of Puerto Rico's distance
education offerings is based on the use of the latest
Internet and videoconference technologies to provide asynchronous
education to meet the needs of students. Participants
will have the opportunity to interact with the campus’
faculty as well as the Deans of the Graduate and Professional
Schools.

SEMINARS AT SAN
GERMAN AND PONCE
CAMPUSES OF THE Inter American UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO
Location: San Germán and Ponce
campuses of the Inter American University of Puerto Rico
Duration: All day
Cost: $15 US
Will include a working session, lecture and guided tours
hosted by the San Germán and Ponce Campuses of
Inter American University of Puerto Rico. The San Germán
Campus, with a long history of excellent academic service
to the Puerto Rican community and the rest of the Caribbean,
is also known as the University Paradise of Puerto Rico
for its lovely grounds and spectacular as well as cozy
environment. Located on the outskirts of the second oldest
town of the Island, a beautiful city, recognized in 2004
by the United Nations for preserving its colonial heritage,
the campus was founded in 1912 as the Polytechnic Institute.
The seminar will include a presentation on International
Education with highlights of Puerto Rico’s history
and culture. The participants will tour the city’s
main historical sites, including the second oldest church-museum
in the Western Hemisphere, Porta Coeli, and will culminate
with lunch at the presidents official residence, “Casa
María” built in the 1930’s, nestled
buy a gorgeous and breathtaking panoramic view of the
Valley. The Ponce campus, located in the second largest
city of the Island, the campus is well known for its up-to-date
technology to provide academic, students and administrative
services and develop distance learning innovative projects.
The afternoon tour includes the historical district and
the Serrallés Castle Museum, which is a magnificent
example of the revival architecture popular in the 1920’s.
- COLLABORATIVE PROJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF LOW-COST
HIGH-PRECISION SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS
Location: Bayamon Campus, Inter American
University of Puerto Rico
Duration: Three hours
Cost: $15 US
Through an application of the International Union of
Pure and Applied Chemistry and the UNESCO India project,
University scientists developed a model for the construction
of low-cost scientific equipment. As a collaborative project
in the area of knowledge and technology transfer, this
model has been presented in various Latin-American countries
to increase the research capabilities of the students
of the Region.
