Born
in Mexico, Manuel Goël obtained a Law Degree from
the University of the Valley of Toluca, Mexico, and
lived most of my adult life in Canada, Australia and
the United States. After retiring from the Canadian
Federal Government, he joined the faculty staff of the
Autonomous University of Mexico - Toluca in 2001 and
became the founding Director for the National &
International Academic Cooperation Office. He has coordinated
international initiatives and academic research efforts
abroad. In 2005, he co-founded and became the Director
for the Academic Liaison Office for UAEM at UNT-Denton
to foster international academic ties between universities
in North America. |

Nitza Hernández is Executive Director of the
Hispanic Educational Telecommunications System (HETS),
a bilingual consortium for distance learning initiatives
constituted by 22 colleges and universities in seven
states of the US and Puerto. With a strong interdisciplinary
academic background, Dr. Hernández has considerable
experience in teaching, research, academic management,
consulting, faculty training, and distance learning.
She has provided leadership to the HETS consortium’s
collaboration initiatives for online learning with emphasis
on inter-institutional collaboration among community
colleges and universities, and the development of articulation
agreements and policies for delivering joint online
offerings. Dr. Hernández has a Ph.D. degree in
Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
and a Master’s in Educational Media from Temple
University. |

Since 1990, Brian has specialized in sustainable housing

with professors from City & Regional Planning and
Landscape Architecture to offer interdisciplinary courses
in Sustainable Environments, which has now become a
Minor of Sustainable Environments. He teaches parts
of the year at Cal Poly and in Mexico. |

Katharine
C. Krebs is the Director of International Programs at
Binghamton University. She received her MA and PhD from
Tulane University and embarked upon a career that took
her to Denver, Albany, Philadelphia and, finally, Binghamton,
where she became the University’s first full-time
professional director of international education. Krebs
came to what was largely a static program of only six
study-abroad opportunities with 207 participants. In
2000-01, those numbers had grown to 30 programs with
496 students participating — the highest rate
of participation among the university centers. She has
helped to establish new partnerships with 16 universities
in nine countries. She was also a central figure in
the development of the International Studies Certificate
Program, whereby students pursue international interests
through a curriculum of language, cross-cultural subjects,
experiential learning and a capstone project. Krebs
continues to seek even more study-abroad opportunities
while also heightening Binghamton’s visibility
through her activities within the SUNY system and in
national professional organizations. |

she obtained her Ph.D. Her research area encompasses
institutional and system-wide change towards the goals
of social justice. Currently, Dr. Lee is investigating
international student access to higher education and
their experiences in higher education institutions.
Dr. Lee has authored and co-authored numerous studies
on these topics in Research in Higher Education, Review
of Higher Education, Journal of Higher Education, Journal

A. Longanecker is the executive director of the Western
Interstate Commission for Higher Education in Boulder,
Colorado. Previously he served for six years as the
assistant secretary for postsecondary education at the
U.S. Department of Education, developing and implementing
national policy and programs providing more than $40
billion annually in student aid and $1 billion to institutions.
Prior to that he was the state higher education executive
officer (SHEEO) in Colorado and Minnesota.He was also
the principal analyst for higher education for the Congressional
Budget Office. Dr. Longanecker has served on numerous
boards and commissions and was president of the State
Higher Education Executive Officers. He has written
extensively on a range of higher education issues.

as Secretary General at the National University of Mexico,

been actively involved in international activites. He
participated in the Tri-lateral Task Force for higher

After beginning his career as a high school teacher

Director of a Canadian International Development Agency
project in St. Lucia, West Indies; as Associate Professor

Learning. Before coming to ACE, Dr. Olson was a professor
at New Jersey City University. While at NJCU, she co-directed

levels. Previously, Schultz served as associate project
director of CONAHEC, where her duties included managing
CONAHEC’s portal and conferences. She also spent
seven years in Gabon, Central Africa, teaching English
as a foreign language with the Peace Corps and on contract
with the Gabonese Ministry of Education. Schultz received
her bachelor's degree in business French from the University
of Colorado and a master's degree in international policy
studies with an emphasis in intercultural communication
from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. |

Bruce
Sillner is the Dean of International Programs of the
State University of New York at New Paltz. As such,
he is responsible for the university’s study abroad
and exchange programs, international student and scholar
services, the intensive English language program, the
Institute for International Business and binational
programs. SUNY New Paltz offers more than forty study
abroad programs enrolling more than 400 students per
year. He also serves as chair of the steering committee
of the SUNY Council of Directors of International Education.
SUNY New Paltz was the first public university in the
US to offer a study abroad program for freshmen.

Stephen is currently completing the requirements for

between Mexico and the United States in the areas of
professional and continuing education. In addition,
Stephen has a bachelor’s degree in economics,
an area certificate in Latin American and Caribbean
studies, and a master’s degree in instructional
technology, all granted from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Perú in Lima, Perú, and the Universidad

Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science. Before
that, he was Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.
In additional to his research publications in mathematics,
Fred has written on contemporary issues in higher education,
technology transfer and university-industry collaboration.

del Consejo Nacional de la ANUIES y Vicepresidente Alterno
de la Organización Universitaria Interamericana.

Department Head of International Education at Selkirk
College, one of Cara Weston's responsibilities is to
facilitate development of curriculum internationalization
and student mobility in new and existing programs. She
also developing a new program in TESOL (Teaching English
to Speakers of Other Languages) for Canadian and international
students. She has collaborated with colleagues in other
program areas on special exchange projects, internships,
and faculty workshops. Ms. Weston has administered and
taught at colleges and universities in Japan, the United
States, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates, and is
currently working on her doctorate in higher education

Bernie
Yevin currently serves as Dean of the Division of Business
and Information Technologies Division at Forsyth Technical
Community College in Winston-Salem, NC, where he manages
four academic departments, each heavily populated with
non-traditional students, adjunct faculty, and on-line
courses. Currently, Yevin is working with faculty to
develop two International programs. Earlier, Yevin developed
the International Business major and its curriculum
at one school, which included two years of foreign language
study and a semester foreign internship option working
in a foreign business. Yevin has served as a contributing
author to four International Business textbooks, has
consulted with a variety of corporations on various
aspects of international trade and has participated
on Trade Missions to Japan and Indonesia. |
