Fourteen percent of U.S. high schools are actively recruiting international students, according to a report by the National Association of College Admissions Counselling, with the majority of those using private education agencies to bring in their international cohort.

The Canadian government announced the inclusion of Mexico in the program, Electronic Travel Authority. This implies that Mexicans who have had a Canadian visa for the past ten years or have a valid relation to a non-immigrant to be able to travel to the United States, shall be exempt from processing a new visa to travel to Canada.

A left-leaning party has won a surprise victory in Alberta, one of Canada's most conservative provinces. The New Democratic Party (NDP) ended the Progressive Conservatives' (PC) 44-year rule of the province. Political observers were stunned by the result, with one commentator saying: "Pigs do fly". Alberta's Premier Jim Prentice, a former member of Tory Prime Minister Stephen Harper's cabinet, said he was stepping down from political life. He only became premier in September, and called the snap election in April to seek a mandate after bringing in a tough tax-raising budget. "My... more

A new section has also been added, which provides content for foreign governments and institutions.

The site drew 1.8 million page visits last year alone, and with the new design, the government hopes to attract more overseas visitors.

Over the last two decades, almost every country that has taken up tuition policy has moved to charge fees, not to rescind them. Most notably, universities in Britain, which were free until the late 1990s, have nearly tripled their tuition fees in recent years.
