The Conference Program will focus on the impact of the opioid epidemic in the United States, with specific comment on African Americans and other minorities in the United States; the impact of marijuana decriminalization or legalization on our youth in states where it has occurred; establishing effective youth programs to prevent illegal drug usage and abuse of prescription drugs by implementing a strong self-determination program, encouraging academic excellence and establishing counselor-mentor and apprentice internship programs; and establishing priorities for objectives of the National Coalition’s effort to reduce the adverse impact of school discipline decisions on youth and promote educational achievement, and in the process reduce crime and violence and increase greatly the number of productive adult citizens needed for the future of this nation as to its workforce and security.

Further, conference presenters will raise and discuss eliminating implicit bias and unwarranted assumptions about youth living in poverty, racial and national origin differences, questionable religious groups and in poor neighborhoods. We also expect our speakers will comment on the need for sufficient funding to treat addiction and mental health issues both at the Federal and State level and how to resolve conflicts between insurance carriers as to coverage and he extent and duration of treatment in the judgement of medical professionals. This two-day conference will present the views and expect knowledge on these most pressing issues facing us in the nation at this time.

 The National Association of Hispanic and Latino Studies will host its national conference in Dallas, Texas February 11-16, 2019. This conference is expected to have more than 2,000 attendees. In addition, not fewer than 600 research sessions, round tables, panel discussions, performances and demonstrations will be scheduled throughout the week. In addition to the many scholarly sessions, the conference will also include many exhibitors, a career fair and health screenings. 

Persons interested in presenting a paper, round table, etc. should submit an abstract, not to exceed two (2) pages that are related to Hispanic, Latino and Chicano experiences. Subjects may include, but are not limited to: literature, demographics, history, politics, economics, education, health care, fine arts, religion, social sciences, business and many other subjects. Please indicate the time required for presentation of your paper (25 OR 45 minutes). 

Interested scholars should submit his/her abstract with presenter’s name, institution/organization, address, phone and email no later than Saturday, November 10, 2018.
