Description:

Leading Higher Education Internationalization as a Sustainable Social Good

“There is no more powerful transformative force than education—to promote human rights and dignity, to eradicate poverty and deepen sustainability, to build a better future for all, founded on equal rights and social justice, respect for cultural diversity, and international solidarity and shared responsibility, all of which are fundamental aspects of our common humanity.” — Irina Bokova, former director-general of UNESCO

To address today’s global challenges - well-articulated by the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - higher education internationalization is the conduit for crossing boundaries and connecting disparate cultures and modes of knowledge. At its best, internationalization brings together interdisciplinary, cross-sector, and globally networked communities focused on serving students, local and regional interests, and the wider social good.

For the 20th anniversary of the Internationalization Collaborative, this year's program will highlight ways that higher education institutions are proactively developing and incorporating internationalization strategies to be socially responsible and inclusively civic-minded on their campuses, and in their international partnerships.
Sessions will focus on:

  • Defining and promoting global citizenship
  • The environmental impact and sustainability of international activities
  • Internationalization's economic and societal contributions

Cohosted by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), the Internationalization Collaborative brings together senior leadership, faculty, and staff as a learning community to address challenges, share ideas, and help one another implement comprehensive, sustainable internationalization strategies.
