Today, in addition to academic and professional development, educational institutions also need to prepare students in intercultural competencies. This report focuses on the interactional aspects of dealing with people of different backgrounds, captured by the notion of "intercultural competence". It discusses domains, dimensions, behavioural manifestations, developmental levels, and second-language proficiency, as these comprise the abilities essential for transcending one's native language, culture, and world view for success in another.
