The European Union, Canada and Mexico said Thursday that they will respond to new US tariffs on steel and aluminum with punitive measures targeting American products worth billions of dollars. 

Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, said the bloc would move ahead with tariffs that are expected to affect roughly $7.5 billion worth of US exports. It will also lodge a case with the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Two of the largest higher-education systems in the country are partnering to pilot an online course finder tool to increase students’ access to 10,000 online and transferable courses.

The year-long initiative, called Finish Faster!, launches this month for students enrolled in a California State University or California Community College, together which serve nearly 2.6 million learners.

But it can and must better prepare graduates for a changing science landscape and multiple careers. It should also be more transparent in terms of where graduates end up working.

Are we at peak higher ed? My answer is no, but that answer depends on the definitions that we choose.

Does peak higher ed refer to the number of schools, or the number of students enrolled? The number of people employed in higher ed (or just faculty), or the number of credentials granted? Tenure-track faculty jobs or the impact on the lives of graduates? The total number of colleges and universities, or the total value of the knowledge created?

Sixteen University of Virginia scholars will pursue their work on foreign shores with the help of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program this year – a record number for UVA, which recently was cited among the top producers of Fulbright Scholars in the nation.

The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board offered the grants to the UVA alumni and students, who will be among the more than 1,900 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2018-19 academic year.

Esta semana, la Secretaría de Educación abrió la convocatoria del fondo de Educación Superior para Todos, con la que el Distrito espera entregar becas y créditos a estudiantes de colegios públicos y privados de la ciudad que no cuenten con los recursos necesarios para acceder a la educación superior.

According to the 2018/19 Center for World University Rankings, New Mexico State University has been ranked in the top 4.3 percent of institutions of higher education worldwide. With 18,000 degree-granting institutions of higher education worldwide evaluated, NMSU ranked 770th and earned a national rank of 184th this year.
