 It was just a tiny, almost imperceptible "chirp," but it simultaneously opened humanity's ears to the music of the cosmos and proved Einstein right again.

In what is being hailed as one of the biggest eureka moments in the history of physics, scientists announced Thursday that they have finally detected gravitational waves, the ripples in the fabric of space and time that Einstein predicted a century ago.

​President Obama released the final budget request of his presidency yesterday, requesting a total of $69.4 billion for the Department of Education for FY 2017.

Beyond the annual funding for the Department of Education, the budget also includes an additional $139.7 billion in new mandatory funding, including $60.8 billion for America’s College Promise (ACP), the president’s free community college initiative announced last year.

Latin America is facing a significant skills gap. A reported 37 percent of companies in the region find it difficult to fill job vacancies, particularly for technical positions. One of the major efforts to overcome this skills gap is to provide funding for students in higher education to study abroad through programs such as Brazil’s Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP) and Mexico’s FOBESII (Bilateral Forum on Higher Education, Innovation and Research) partnership.
